According to several students who were present, at Laurier this week a professor, equipped with a microphone, spontaneously lectured in the main thoroughfare of a campus building against Israel’s move on Gaza. When a student asked him a question, the professor answered that anyone who did not agree with his view did not deserve to study at that university.
No matter what your views on the conflict, I hope that we all agree that this attitude is antithetical to academic values. I hope too that we would all be prepared to stand up to it and the sense of intimidation it creates for those students with other views.
