Jack recently sent me this article that predicts the following 12 major brands will disappear soon due to economic conditions or mismanagement that cannot be covered up in a recession:
- Avis/Budget (CAR)
- Borders (BGP)
- Crocs (CROX)
- Saturn (GM)
- Esquire Magazine (Hearst)
- At least one of Gap (GAP) Old Navy and Banana Republic (all owned by GAP)
- Architectural Digest Magazine (Conde Nast)
- Chrysler (Chrysler LLC)
- Eddie Bauer (EBHI)
- Palm (PALM)
- AIG (AIG)
- There is almost no question that two of the large US flag carriers will have to merge to avoid the bankruptcy of another American airline. United Airlines (UAUA) is among the three weakest carriers in the US. AMR (AMR) and US Air (LCC) complete the list.
The explanations are both amusing and illuminating.
