I left London about 6:20 this morning and arrived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming about 2pm.
Arriving at the Jackson airport is really great. The plane swoops down between some mountains and the views are just wonderful, with the Grand Tetons right there.
There were some problems with my reservation at the Snow King Lodge. For some reason they had me with the EclectEcon-Blog group. I'm a group now! Woo-Hoo.
So at the check-in, I meet a couple of other media folk.
Them: Who are you with
Me: EclectEcon-Blog Group
The young man at the desk who checked me in told me my room has a Teton view. He has a great sense of humour:
Oh well, it really doesn't matter that much.
The rest of the afternoon was mine. Fortunately, the hotel is at the bottom of a hill that has chair lifts! So I decided to ride up and walk around up top Snow King Mountain.
I loved that it wasn't very popular when I was up there. While walking around up top, I met only one person, a guy I'd call a fell-runner, but I don't know what they are called out here in Wyoming. Many more people were going up as I came down, though.
I absolutely know I'd have been able to walk up that mountain three years ago when I was doing some hiking up and down hills in the Yorkshire Dales. But I don't think I could do that now without a LOT of water, a LOT of vitamin I, and a LOT of rest stops. I'm glad I took the lift.
Being up top filled me with a sense that I'd seen it all before. Yes, it was nice, but it didn't appeal to me the way the Yorkshire Dales do. Odd, eh? I think part of that sensation was caused by the haze. The mountains just didn't look as crisp and interesting through all the haze. At least it didn't rain while I was up there.
Here's a photo of the Grand Tetons.
More soon....
