I am in the Calgary airport, waiting for my flight to Regina. It always feels odd flying over Regina and then backtracking. But that's because I'm flying on WestJet. Other times I have flown Air Canada, but with them I have to fly from London Ontario to Trono and then back over London. Either way I have to backtrack.
Unlike many people, I actually like Air Canada. They have pretty good connections, they have first class (when I feel I can afford a cheap upgrade if it's available), and the biggie: they have USB connectors at each seat for recharging your smartphone or tablet. WestJet doesn't have first class or USB connectors. But WestJet has a more friendly, less bureaucratic atmosphere which I quite enjoy.
The Calgary airport is nice (as airports go). I haven't been here for several years, but it still has the same positive friendly feeling I remember. Maybe that's because I'm in the WestJet wing of the airport. But they have fun kiosks, interesting restaurants and food outlets, and a pleasant overall feeling here. They also have FREE WI-FI!!. There aren't many outlets for plugging in your laptop, but I found one in anice, quiet isolated area.
They have a liquor and wine store here. I thought I'd save myself some time and money and pick up some Lagavulin here before arriving in Regina. Hah! Lagavulin here at the airport is $147. In Regina it is $125. In Ontario it is $115. Elsewhere in Alberta it is $99. Oh well, I'll find my way to a liquor store in Regina, maybe tomorrow.
Oh, and I love my Bose noise-cancelling headphones when flying. They must cut out about 90% of the engine noise and 80% of the sound of screaming infants.
