This past weekend Ms Eclectic, her sister, and I visited the town of Bredenbury, SK, to attend their centennial celebration. Bredenbury is a town of about 350 people, but there were campers parked near the town arena and cars lined portions of the streets, even at night, indicating many friends and relatives returned for the event.
We had been informed via mail and the town's website that we should register at the town's arena, but when we arrived on Saturday morning, there was nobody there. Here's why:
Last winter some folks who had been contracted to shovel the snow from the roof of the arena moved it all to on side of the roof before removing it and then went to lunch. When they returned, the roof had caved it. That's what I was told when I asked about it. No foolin.
So we were directed by a mountie in full regalia to the Community Hall to register:
From the moment we registered, there were hugs of joy, cries of recognition (thanks in part to big nametags) and stories of reminiscences between Ms Eclectic, her sister, and their childhood friends.
People were already lining up for the big community parade that was to start in about an hour. The yellow vehicle on the left edge of the above photo is an ambulance, there are sandboxes set out for children to play in, and the red and yellow contraption in front of town hall is a dunk tank that was used as a fund-raiser in the afternoon. The building just beyond the Community Hall had a wonderful display of old photos and memorabilia from the town. We spent a lot of time there as Ms Eclectic and her sister looked through the items and chatted with the visitors.
Next up: The Centennial Parade.
