I have been having some email discussions with various friends about the health benefits and harms of various foods. Because I am continuing to (try to) cut down on the carbs, I don't eat much bread at all. And because we have friends and relatives who are concerned about "wheat belly", we have been looking for something that, at the very least, contains no wheat.
From Wikipaedia,
Rye bread contains a large amount of fiber and a small amount of fat. Rye bread has a low glycemic index, which means it does not cause a spike in blood sugar as white bread and other breads do.[16] In addition, whole-grain rye flour has more soluble fiber than whole-grain wheat flour making whole-grain rye more effective for controlling the cholestrol level in the blood.
